Different Types of Mastectomy Products for Women- By: William Greenburg

Description : Women who have been afflicted with cancer and have undergone a mastectomy require mastectomy products to enable them to adjust to live a normal life again. Just because a woman has lost one or both breasts doesn't mean that she can't quickly get back to living normally again though some therapy may be required before she can resume her usual activities. Mastectomy products can help in making the adjustment in your day-to-day lifestyle.

For those women who have just had surgery, it would be helpful for them to use lightweight breast forms to start with. This enables them to retain the shape of their breasts without causing undue irritation to an area that might still be sore. They should preferably pick one that is extremely lightweight and is made of the highest quality materials so that there are no complications post surgery. Some of these breast forms also incorporate a post surgical drain to take care of any problems.

About four weeks or so after surgery, breast forms made of silicone to replace the missing breast may be used though medical advice should be sought first. These forms are generally available in a variety of shades and skin tones so there should be no problem in finding suitable ones. Because there are many different types of surgical mastectomy procedures, there are also a number of different forms to suit the procedure that was carried out. For example, if only a small amount of tissue was removed, you can use a teardrop breast form. If you need more coverage, triangle breast forms are available.

There should be no worries about lingerie because there are many different types of bras that are available for women who have had a mastectomy. Comfortable bras such as fully figured and support bras are readily available in a number of sizes and, if you wish to be fashionable, these bras are styled in the latest fashions. If you are keen on swimming, you can still wear a swimsuit and feel good. Many of these swimsuits are one-piece and offer extra coverage under the arm to take into account the surgical procedure.

Immediately after surgery, your arm is likely to be stiff and sore for some time, use a soft tops and clothes to sleep in that fasten in the front or can be pulled up over the hips with ease. Until you feel comfortable wearing a soft cotton bra, camisoles that provide support without being tight are a good idea. Mastectomy camisoles incorporate pouches that can hold lightweight breast forms.
